Confirm where the wand engages the hose handle the plug is set back in the handle approximately 3/4". This is typically described as a recessed within the central vacuum trade. 

The 51691 ButtonDown™ chrome integrated telescopic wand features a recessed Cen-Tec black cord management to engage with the electric hose and a release lever for disengaging the wand from the hose. 

The power flows from the electric hose through the wand providing power to the electric nozzle.

The wand has a compressed length of 24.5” (662mm) and an extended length of 36” (914mm) at 1" intervals controled by one hand.

It allows the user to do above the floor cleaning, and adjust the height to the operator and the job.
